What it is

A certification program for flexible polyurethane foam. Its own site says certified foams meet standards for content, emissions and durability and are analyzed by independent, accredited laboratories.

Who runs it

The program’s site says it is administered by the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam, a nonprofit organization incorporated in 2008. It is a nonprofit’s program; the federal mattress rules published in the eCFR are the flammability standards at 16 CFR Part 1632 and 16 CFR Part 1633.

What it does not promise

Its FAQ says it does not certify furniture, product lines or companies, only flexible polyurethane foam. A listing that names the mark is making a claim about foam, not about a whole mattress or topper, and this site has checked no listing against the program’s records.

The listings write the name three ways: CertiPUR-US on fifteen listings, CertiPUR on one and CertiPur on one. The spellings are different strings, and this site keeps each one as printed rather than correcting it.
