Put a topper on a mattress and the stack grows by the topper’s stated thickness. The cover goes over both, so the figure its pocket has to contain is the sum, not the mattress height on its own.

Nine of the twelve topper listings state a thickness, from 1.5 in to 4 in. The quilted pillow tops filed as toppers state none, and a sum with a missing term is not calculated.

Across the 29 same-size mattress and topper pairings the Depth Fit Check allows, the covers of the same size give 34 contained rows, 0 rows that miss and 56 rows with nothing to check. Pairings in a size with no cover filed, 9 of them, have no rows at all.

What goes wrong

Checking the pocket against the mattress height after a topper has gone on. The sum can pass the deep end of a range that the mattress alone sits inside.
